Overview

Autoad is a small autonomous machine encountered within Chozo structures on SR388. Its preserved pattern is not that of a labor unit or a known civilian appliance. Active examples move without visible supervision through old ruins, turning stairways, wall faces, and ceiling edges into part of a persistent perimeter system.

The unit is distinctive because it combines compact mobility with a short-range field that interrupts Aeion-linked equipment. That effect changes the nature of an encounter: the important question is not how much open ground the machine controls, but whether it can close the last few meters in a chamber whose walls already favor its movement.

Observed forms show a historical shift from uncontrolled hopping motion to low, surface-clinging movement. Both forms support the same caution: the Autoad remains a surviving Chozo machine whose function can no longer be assumed from its present behavior. The record preserves a rogue remnant, not a recovered work order.

Construction And Mobility

The current body plan is compact and spider-like, with enough gripping capacity to move across walls and ceilings. Its smaller frame makes it easy to overlook against ruin stone, especially where old joints, recesses, and support ribs break up the silhouette. The earlier hopping form establishes that its locomotion has varied, but does not establish a complete developmental sequence for the chassis.

The circular disruption field is the defining system. It is emitted at close range and appears designed to interrupt a particular class of powered capability rather than to demolish architecture. That specialization suggests a security or counter-intrusion role, but the surviving evidence does not establish whether the intended target was wildlife, unauthorized visitors, or another Chozo force.

Range And Deployment

Autoad activity is tied to the Chozo-built interior spaces of SR388: corridors, chamber thresholds, vertical shafts, and approach routes that provide frequent surfaces for movement. The machine does not require a broad open floor to remain effective. A series of nearby walls can become a continuous approach route when an active unit is able to transfer from one plane to the next.

Its closest useful comparisons are the defended corridor behavior of Autrack, the overhead suppression pattern of Autom, and the wider network of Chozo remnants associated with the Chozo. These systems are not interchangeable, but together they show how abandoned SR388 infrastructure can preserve different layers of access control.

Operational Consequence

The machine favors short, obstructed routes where observers must pass near the surface it occupies. A wide approach, isolated line of sight, and an alternate retreat path reduce its advantage. Conversely, a close inspection of an apparent ruin fixture can place a team within disruption range before the unit is identified as mobile.

Reinforced black examples are a separate handling concern because their plating reduces the range of effective responses. They should be recorded as a stronger configuration of the same unit, not as evidence for a separate biological lineage. The important survey data are chassis color, plating condition, route geometry, field activation distance, and nearby Chozo control markings.

Provenance And Record Limits

Chozo manufacture and SR388 association are well supported. The original assignment is not. Its present conduct supports autonomous patrol or defense behavior, not a proven construction, maintenance, or excavation role.

No recovered service log establishes production volume, power-cell replacement, or the conditions that leave some units dormant while others remain active. Future examination should prioritize an intact command interface, a mapped route, and any nearby terminal that can distinguish intentional security behavior from degraded autonomous looping.
