Overview

The Central Unit Cannon is a retractable Mawkin Chozo chamber-defense subsystem installed around Central Unit cores on ZDR. It is constructed hardware, not fauna. Its protected wall or ceiling housing remains closed until the command core requires an aimed response across the open space surrounding the unit.

The cannon's role is local and coordinated. A Central Unit provides the chamber-level defense state; the cannon translates that information into a direct firing line without needing to remain exposed between engagements. This relationship distinguishes it from a general wall turret and explains why the system is found only in specialized command chambers.

Its limits are equally important. The cannon depends on chamber power, an active control core, and geometry that supports a clear line. When core control is lost, documented units retract and deactivate. A surviving housing may still be a useful architectural record even when its weapon is no longer operational.

Chamber Architecture And Fire Control

The physical assembly consists of a recessed hatch, an emergence path, a rotating base, and a directed emitter tied into the chamber system. Retraction protects the barrel and prevents it from obstructing the room when the Central Unit has no reason to expose it.

When active, the cannon aims through the central defense volume rather than firing indiscriminately. This makes position within the chamber decisive: a line that is clear of one housing may fall directly under another as the command core changes its priority. The accompanying Rinka pressure further prevents the chamber from being understood as a set of isolated hazards.

Defense-Network Significance

Central Unit Cannons occupy a different layer of ZDR security from the mobile Autsniper. The Autsniper uses corridor surfaces to establish a selective lane; the Central Unit Cannon is bound to one heavily defended room and acts as a controlled extension of the core inside it.

For recovery teams, the pattern of hatches, power couplings, and emitter tracks can reveal a chamber's original defensive design even after the active unit is gone. That makes the cannon record useful to both security analysis and structural survey.
