Overview

Cyclops X is the infected archive form of the Cyclops, a distinctive predator from Kreet's great northern forests. The natural animal lives among long Oshyr trees and mimics their pale, plantlike appearance with white, nearly translucent skin. Its body is built for concealment, vertical attack, and fluid-feeding rather than pursuit.

The station specimen was kept in a dim Tropical Habitat because subdued light helped keep it relatively docile. That management strategy fits the natural record: the Cyclops sees well in shadowed forests but can be blinded by sharp light. Even under controlled conditions, personnel were advised to avoid its sensory range.

Cyclops X formed after X infection of that contained specimen. By absorbing the host DNA, the parasite acquired the Cyclops high-leap capacity and stabilized it inside a Mega Core X event. The record is therefore both a natural-history account of the Cyclops and a quarantine account of X trait conversion.

Anatomy And Physiology

The Cyclops body is long, segmented, moist, and smooth to the touch, with a plantlike appearance that supports mimicry among Oshyr trees. Habitat structure is therefore inseparable from camouflage; without Oshyr-like cover, the body plan loses much of its advantage.

The orbital Tropical Habitat recreated enough of the source environment to keep the specimen alive and partially subdued. Dim lighting, vertical vegetation, and controlled enclosure conditions likely reduced stress while preserving the animal's ambush instincts. The chamber was a habitat imitation, but not a safe one for anyone entering the antennae's sensory field.

The X infection record links the species indirectly to SR388 research operations because the station was in high orbit during the outbreak. Field evidence should distinguish Kreet-native Cyclops biology from station-specific infection signs: moist segment residue, antenna vibration traces, underside feeding marks, X biomass, and structural damage from high-leap behavior.

Behavior And Ecology

The natural Cyclops is an ambush predator. It waits until prey comes close enough, then leaps into the air and controls descent with its webbed feet. The goal is to land mouth-first over the prey, trapping the victim beneath the body rather than chasing it across the forest floor. The station record should separate host instinct from parasite-held reconstruction.

Feeding is highly invasive. Tubes inside the mouth pierce the prey and draw out internal fluids, leaving a dried carcass after feeding is complete. This method suits an animal that can immobilize prey from above, because the body must remain positioned long enough for the draining process to finish. That distinction keeps natural life history and quarantine history from collapsing together.

The X form preserves and weaponizes these traits. Air-vibration sensing, high jumping, and drop-feeding become part of a parasitic host clone rather than a natural forest predator. Origin And Development

Natural Cyclops reproduction is hermaphroditic. Each adult carries male and female reproductive organs near the underside mouth, and during mating cycles individuals leave sperm sacks and egg sacks through the forest. These sacks release pheromones that attract other Cyclops, which take them into their own reproductive organs. This host behavior becomes more dangerous once preserved by X mimicry.

After several weeks, buds appear on the impregnated Cyclops and eventually drop to the forest floor. The buds dig into soft ground and enter a centipede-like larval phase that actively hunts small creatures. Larval legs sense ground vibrations from prey, continuing the species' reliance on motion detection from the earliest stage.

When the larvae have fed enough, they move to the surface, shed larval skin and many legs, and enter the main body plan as small Cyclops forms. The X infection later interrupted this natural life history by absorbing the station specimen's DNA and producing Cyclops X, a parasite-held reconstruction of the host's mature abilities.
