Overview

Homing Spores are mobile sporangia ejected by Ghaspores in the Fury Green region of Viewros. They are not a mature free-ranging species in the ordinary sense. Each is a pouch-like fungal unit containing spores and a lighter-than-air gas mixture, released at irregular intervals from a rooted parent fungus.

The internal gas holds the pouch aloft until a nearby organism is detected. At that point, thorny tactile receptors grow across the outer surface and the unit begins pursuing the target. The change is visibly important: a floating, waiting pouch becomes an active contact hazard only after it has detected something in its local airspace.

Contact drives the final response. The inner gas rapidly compresses while the outer layer heats, causing an explosion. This makes the Homing Spore distinct from a passive pollen cloud or a conventional seed: its risk is concentrated in a moving body that can choose a nearby target and then convert its buoyant structure into a destructive rupture.

Pouch Construction

A Homing Spore carries both particulate spores and a lighter-than-air gas mixture. The pouch wall contains that gas long enough to float through humid jungle air, but it is not built for sustained independent life. Its construction is better understood as a dispersal package with sensory and reactive functions than as a complete organism with a proven adult stage.

The suspended body can remain near a parent growth site while it waits. A still sporangium should therefore not be handled as harmless residue. Lack of movement may mean that it has not detected a suitable nearby organism yet, not that its gas charge or outer receptors have failed.

Tactile Pursuit

The thorny receptors appear only after the Homing Spore senses a creature nearby. They are tactile rather than an assumed visual targeting system, so line of sight is not a sufficient safety measure in a dense jungle corridor. Movement, proximity, and physical disturbance are the relevant trigger conditions supported by the record.

Once activated, the unit pursues until contact. The following explosion is caused by internal compression and surface heating, not by a broad lingering toxin cloud. This matters for containment: airspace separation and a clear path away from the pouch are more useful than treating the event as a fixed patch of contaminated ground.

The parent Ghaspore remains the center of any repeating release event. A field team that focuses only on the airborne units may misread the hazard as migratory fauna and overlook the rooted source on a nearby trunk or cliff. Parent location, shell state, and number of emitted pouches belong in the same record.

The Goura Ghaspore produces a related but materially different cave sporangium. Its air-exposed spores are highly corrosive and can injure the parent body. A Homing Spore from Fury Green should not be presumed to share that corrosive behavior merely because both forms float.

Evidence And Limits

The archive supports Ghaspore origin, irregular ejection, a gas-filled pouch, spore contents, tactile receptor growth near creatures, pursuit, internal gas compression, outer-layer heating, and contact explosion. It does not support an independent diet, an adult phase, a separate reproduction cycle, or long-range migration outside parent growth areas.
