Despite its name, the record does not support a conventional leech ecology. There is no reliable evidence that it feeds on blood, lives in ceiling shafts, or attaches by suction. Its established field identity is a spring-gliding ambush organism whose body shape changes the trajectory of the jump rather than a parasite waiting above a host.
