The Crawltank is a light Space Pirate mobile defense drone built for patrol and installation security. Its body is low, compact, and able to attach to walls or ceilings as well as ordinary ground. That mobility lets the machine use a corridor in three dimensions, shifting its cannon angle without the mass or cost of a larger armored vehicle.

The platform is deliberately modest in armor. It is not intended to remain in a prolonged heavy engagement, and its light chassis can be disabled more readily than a dedicated assault machine. That limitation is part of its function rather than a design accident. A Crawltank is meant to screen a route, identify activity, put immediate fire into an approach, and buy time for stronger systems or personnel to respond.

The important variable is the weapon mount. Crawltanks accept different beam-cannon packages, so identical body shells can present very different hazards in separate facilities. Some units use a Phazon-amplified operating state that sharply increases the danger of their fire. The machine is therefore best identified through a combination of chassis, attached surface, cannon configuration, and local Pirate objective.

Surface-Clinging Chassis

The drone’s squat armored hull is supported by articulated contact assemblies that allow it to remain close to the surface it uses. That posture reduces its profile in a corridor and makes it difficult to predict from floor-level observation alone. A unit on a ceiling can hold a different line of fire from one on the ground while still protecting the same doorway or junction.

Surface attachment also lets the Crawltank take advantage of built infrastructure. Cable ducts, maintenance tunnels, machinery walls, and overhead supports all become potential patrol routes. Its design assumes a facility with dense structural surfaces, which is why it appears in both Federation and Pirate-controlled locations: once a Pirate unit is inside an engineered complex, the existing architecture can serve its movement system.

Modular Weapon Packages

The cannon mount is the platform’s defining service point. Standard beam packages allow the drone to create repeated pressure along a narrow line, while other modules alter the strength and character of the fire. The body’s real value to its operators is that it can remain in circulation when a local threat changes; replacing the cannon is easier than replacing an entire patrol machine.

Phazon-amplified configurations require separate caution. These units are not simply stronger versions of the baseline drone; their output, control behavior, and failure risk are tied to contaminated energy systems. The platform should be examined from the weapon mount backward. A familiar shell does not guarantee a familiar power source, especially inside installations where Phazon research or processing is present.

Deployment Network And Security Role

Crawltanks have been observed across several important sites, including the G.F.S. Olympus, Norion, Bryyo, Elysia, and Pirate Homeworld. That distribution shows how useful a small modular platform is to an expeditionary force: it can be carried into a captured facility, adapted to the local corridors, and paired with permanent or temporary defenses without needing a dedicated vehicle bay.

The system is often deployed alongside Crawlmines. The two machines should be distinguished by job. A Crawltank projects aimed fire and uses its cannon to hold a line, while a Crawlmine contributes a smaller, more disposable local hazard. Together, they create a security layer that forces movement decisions before a heavier force becomes visible.

Field Consequences And Recovery

A Crawltank sighting is a sign to inspect a wider route, not just the unit itself. Look for repeat paths on surfaces, alternate cannon angles, nearby mines, and signs that the installation power has been tapped for Pirate use. A drone’s low profile can conceal the fact that it is positioned to steer movement toward a more dangerous part of the facility.

When a unit is disabled, preserve the cannon type and surface position before dismantling the chassis. Those two details tell more about local intentions than the damaged hull alone. A light patrol drone can be a routine guard in one corridor and a Phazon-supported choke-point weapon in another, even when both carry the same basic Crawltank designation.
