Overview

The Quad CM is the flying Command Module of the Luminoth Quad combat system, operating in Sanctuary Fortress on Aether. It is one half of a two-component security unit: the aerial module provides ranged fire, tactical movement, and shield projection, while the quadruped Main Body handles close engagement and physical route control.

The Command Module can remain active when separated from the Quad MB. This independent function is central to its design. A team that disables the ground chassis may still face a mobile beam platform capable of strafing around columns, taking advantage of high ceiling space, and maintaining a shield that changes which energy response can reach the body.

Quad CM units became rogue after the wider Luminoth security network failed under Ing pressure, but the hardware remains recognizably Luminoth. It uses a beam emitter and an opposite-polarity shield system, operating entirely as a security mechanism. Operational planning depends on its circuitry, flight routes, and connection to the rest of the Quad architecture.

Two-Part Security System

The Quad was designed by O-Lir as a linked machine with two different combat roles. The Command Module observes, maneuvers, and attacks at range; the Main Body absorbs ground pressure and engages at close distance. The two components can act together or function independently, giving the system redundancy without requiring a single huge chassis to solve every defensive problem.

This modular arrangement has practical implications for a Sanctuary encounter. A damaged body may still leave its command module airborne, and an isolated CM may continue to protect an access point while a new body or other security hardware remains elsewhere. The separation is not a failure state by itself; it is an expected operating mode built into the unit.

Beam And Shield Behavior

The Command Module relies on ranged energy fire and aerial strafe patterns. Its speed lets it maintain distance from ground obstacles while forcing attention upward into bridge spans, reactor chambers, or temple approaches. It is less suited to crushing or ramming than the Quad MB, but it can keep an approach under fire while the main body occupies the lower route.

The shield is an opposite-polarity projector built around an energy relationship in which a suitable opposing system can breach the protection. The Luminoth embedded that tactical logic into a compact defensive component rather than relying on raw hull thickness alone. Shield behavior must be identified before a standard ranged response is chosen.

Sanctuary Fortress Context

Quad CMs appear around reactors, research chambers, temple accessways, and other high-value Sanctuary Fortress routes. Their placement reflects a security doctrine that uses ceiling volume and modularity to cover areas a fixed turret or ground unit cannot. A scanner should record the ceiling clearance, nearest shielded route, and any linked MB unit before entering a chamber.

Other Luminoth machines such as the Ingsmasher and Mechlops solve different security problems. The Ingsmasher is a larger assault mechanism, while the Mechlops controls narrow ground passages. The Quad CM is distinct because it remains a compact aerial controller even when its paired body is no longer functional.
