The Scan Pulse is an Aeion-assisted local survey system that sends a broad energy wave through the immediate environment and returns route-relevant structural information to the suit interface. Its documented function is twofold: it expands the available map record around the user and temporarily identifies nearby breakable walls, floors, or blocks that visual inspection has not made obvious.
This makes Scan Pulse valuable in a way a weapon is not. A survey team can stop treating every unmarked wall as a potential breach target and instead direct attention toward a smaller set of material discontinuities. In unstable ruins, sealed laboratories, and evidence-bearing caverns, that reduces needless damage while exposing routes that an ordinary visual scan would leave unresolved.
The output remains interpretive. A temporary structural outline can identify material likely to yield, but it cannot say whether the void behind it is safe, occupied, flooded, energized, or essential to the stability of the route. Scan Pulse provides local intelligence and preserves the need for judgment; it is a decision aid, not a replacement for a survey protocol.
Aeion Survey Behavior
The pulse draws on the finite reserve managed by the Aeion Ability architecture. In its documented form, the field expands outward through a local map area and causes nearby breakable structure to flash or signal for a limited interval. The map annotation persists as useful route memory, while the immediate warning is deliberately short enough that the wearer must observe it before the indication fades.
This reserve requirement shapes good usage. Repeated pulses can replace careful observation with a costly habit and may leave less Aeion capacity for another contextual system. The Aeion Ability Artifact record provides the broader installation context for how such functions are acquired or stabilized. Scan Pulse itself should be evaluated by the quality of the returned data, not by the spectacle of the outward wave.
Structural Interpretation
A marked breakable surface can indicate a concealed route, a weak maintenance panel, a sealed service passage, or a barrier intended to yield under a compatible tool. It does not establish which tool is appropriate. A low-energy structural seam may respond to a measured compact placement, while a larger barrier may require a different access plan or should be left intact because it supports a pressure boundary.
The system also has known limits. It does not reveal every contact-sensitive floor, non-breakable moving component, or living obstruction. A negative result should therefore be treated as a limit of the survey mode, not proof that a route has no concealed feature. Field teams should combine the pulse with material reading, map comparison, and environmental telemetry before closing an investigation.
Sensor Family Context
Scan Pulse differs from the Scan Visor. The visor is concerned with targeted reading of a specific organism, device, or information point. Scan Pulse samples the surrounding route as a volume and returns a structural annotation. One answers what a chosen object is; the other helps answer where a hidden path may exist.
The X-Ray Visor provides another useful comparison. X-Ray observation can reveal material relationships through a line of sight, while Scan Pulse projects a local survey event and marks selected breakable conditions temporarily. A later Pulse Radar record covers a related acoustic scan method. These systems overlap in purpose but should not be collapsed into generic improved awareness.
