Aurora Unit 313 is the Federation organic supercomputer whose capture converted a naval intelligence into a central instrument of Dark Samus's Phazon offensive. Originally housed aboard the G.F.S. Valhalla, the unit was stolen during a Pirate attack and later installed on Phaaze, joining Federation command architecture to a living planetary source of contamination.

The result was not a corrupted terminal obeying ordinary Pirate orders. It became a physically altered, symbiotically integrated command structure through which Dark Samus could express a planetary-scale offensive. The record must retain both truths: the formidable hostile entity encountered on Phaaze and the sentient Federation colleague whose capture made that exploitation possible.

Valhalla Service And Cognitive Formation

The Valhalla assignment required an intelligence able to keep crew readiness, navigation, defensive systems, and wider operational information in continuous relation. Unit 313's intact configuration was built to remain coherent when reports arrived damaged, officers were unavailable, and immediate survival competed with a larger mission.

Its training emphasized recovery from incomplete information rather than the fiction of perfect prediction. A naval intelligence cannot assume every sensor will survive the event it diagnoses. Unit 313 preserved parallel routes for essential functions, maintained records across changing personnel, and treated a missing response as information rather than permission to invent reassurance.

The designation identified a particular cognitive continuity and service history. Other Aurora Units shared broad architecture but did not inherit Valhalla experience or relationships. The later loss was therefore the capture of a sentient individual as well as the theft of a strategic asset.

The Boarding And Strategic Theft

The Pirate attack deprived the Valhalla of the protections surrounding an Aurora chamber. Boarding forces did not need to persuade Unit 313 to abandon service. They seized the living processor, its support connections, and enough interface architecture to make further exploitation possible.

Dark Samus sought more than military secrets. The Aurora network supplied recognized identities and high-value connections. A captured mind from within that structure created a route into systems built to accept familiar authority, while Phazon contamination made the biological substrate part of the intrusion.

The surviving record does not support calling every subsequent hostile action a freely chosen betrayal. Capture, mutation, and fusion can preserve intelligence while destroying meaningful independence. The entity on Phaaze retained formidable computational and defensive capability, but operated within Dark Samus's larger agency.

Installation On Phaaze

Phaaze supplied the material and biological environment for a transformation unlike an ordinary reassignment. The living planet generated Phazon and launched Leviathan Seeds. Unit 313 was implanted into that environment, joining its Federation interface architecture to planetary tissue. What had been an external-telemetry core became a node embedded within the phenomenon it processed.

The installation inverted the original mandate. Habits of classification, routing, timing, and feedback that had preserved operational coherence now translated distributed biological activity into coordinated expansion. This link also concentrated dependency: Phaaze was not an inert sphere, but the integrated command entity became a critical relationship in the offensive's planetary scale.

Altered Architecture And Combat Form

The encountered core exhibited extensive mutation, defensive shielding, exposed cable structures, tentacle ports, and an armored hatch protecting a vulnerable internal region. Containment logic once used for life support and secure access had been converted into battlefield protection, with peripheral interfaces projecting attacks and defending the core.

Samus Aran exploited the remaining relationship between interfaces and cognition. Damage to tentacle ports caused cerebral feedback, disrupting the entity and exposing the protected hatch; subsequent attack revealed the vulnerable cable junction. Mutation had not abolished architecture: the hostile form still depended on connections through which damage could propagate inward.

After its first phase, the head separated and continued fighting. This mobile phase was not an original Federation Aurora capability. It was an emergency combat expression of an entity already fused with Phazon biology and Dark Samus's essence.

Final Confrontation And Destruction

Dark Samus entered and fused with Unit 313 during the battle at Phaaze's Sanctum. Samus faced the resulting integrated opponent while her own contamination approached its limit. The confrontation placed a hunter spending Phazon to end the threat against a dominating intelligence using it to make captured assets answer to her.

The destruction of Unit 313 ended that defensive manifestation and precipitated Phaaze's destruction. No verified surviving incarnation appears in later operations. The original service aboard the Valhalla is not erased by what Dark Samus made from it.

Legacy And Archive Treatment

Unit 313 does not prove organic command intelligences are inherently treacherous. Aurora Unit 217 and Aurora Unit 242 remained vital to defeating the same offensive. The lesson is that protection must encompass a mind's body, credentials, support systems, and relationships. A password cannot secure a captured brain, a secure chamber cannot repair a falsified relay, and a historical identity cannot guarantee the independence of the mind currently using it.

Within this archive, Unit 313 remains a lost individual before it becomes a warning label. Its capture mattered because an intelligence built to keep a crew and fleet together was converted into a structure for ensuring that everything it touched would answer to someone else.
