Nightbarbs are small airborne darklings of Dark Aether whose survival depends on group movement rather than individual strength. They use ruined airspace, shadowed corridors, and uneven ceilings as a changing refuge, making them difficult to track when several bodies cross the same route at different angles.
The group is a response to pressure. Larger Ing castes occupy the same hostile environment, and a scattered swarm can rapidly compress, divide, or withdraw through the geometry of a chamber. The Nightbarb’s field risk comes from sudden close movement and loss of visual reference, not from a large single-body attack.
Their limits are clear: open bright space and sustained exposure reduce the concealment and route complexity that keep the group together. A Nightbarb concentration should be mapped as a temporary airspace condition rather than a fixed territory or a confirmed breeding site.
