Its altered coloration is evident, but color alone is not the principal reason for a separate record.

The material change is the ability to endure Dark Aether water. A standard Shredder is associated with soil and ground-level disturbance; the Dark Shredder can remain within toxic darkwater and rise from that medium when a nearby body creates an opportunity. This expands the organism's usable habitat from a terrestrial ambush point into a three-dimensional wetland route that includes submerged cover and aerial approach.

That alteration is significant because it preserves plant physiology while changing the environmental boundary that normally limits it. The organism still relies on water, nutrients, and light-responsive tissue, but Ing possession lets it occupy pools that would otherwise be exclusion zones. The result is not simply a darker flying plant. It is a host body whose ecological access has been redirected by possession.

The leaf crown functions as a rotor, giving the plantform controlled lift and a way to move over obstacles without abandoning its soft-bodied plant structure. It is concealment, a holding medium, and an access route that lets the organism remain below the usual line of sight until it chooses to rise.

The same wetland contains the stationary Dark Phlogus and the larger guardian record of Chykka. These are distinct ecological roles, but their shared habitat explains why a pool must be surveyed from surface, waterline, and air. A Dark Shredder occupies the transition between those layers rather than remaining fixed in any one of them.

Behavior And Ecology

The possession state does not erase the Shredder's disturbance-driven behavior. A Dark Shredder still reacts when a nearby body enters its usable space, then rises and moves toward the source. The difference is that the source can now be approached from a submerged waiting position, which shortens warning time and makes a quiet pool an active launch point.

Its relationship to Ing control should be described precisely. The Dark Shredder is a possessed host, not an independent plant that merely thrives in contaminated water. The host's rotor flight and nutrient biology remain evident, while the occupying force changes its durability and its access to a hostile habitat.

Reproduction And Development

No developmental pathway has been confirmed for the altered state. The available record supports a standard Shredder body converted by possession, not a separate brood of naturally dark offspring. Any fragments dispersed after severe trauma may contain plant material, but their capacity to become a new individual has not been demonstrated.

This uncertainty makes host availability more important than imagined reproduction. Where standard Shredder-like plantforms persist near active Ing territory, the possibility of conversion remains more relevant than any unverified Dark Shredder nursery. Monitoring must therefore record both the baseline plant population and the condition of the water it inhabits.
