Its altered coloration is evident, but color alone is not the principal reason for a separate record.
The material change is the ability to endure Dark Aether water. A standard Shredder is associated with soil and ground-level disturbance; the Dark Shredder can remain within toxic darkwater and rise from that medium when a nearby body creates an opportunity. This expands the organism's usable habitat from a terrestrial ambush point into a three-dimensional wetland route that includes submerged cover and aerial approach.
